Climbing for Healing Arts
Hello friends,
I’ve come up with a two part challenge. I’m going to climb 100,000 vertical feet (the equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest 3 1/3 times) on my bike over the next two months, and combine that with raising $5,000 for A Window Between Worlds, a wonderful organization that uses art to help survivors of trauma heal.
The world famous Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race was cancelled for 2020. So they decided to throw down the gauntlet, which I happily picked up, with the 100,000 Leadville Challenge. I have two months to climb 100,000 feet of vertical gain on my bike. Yes, as I mentioned that is like climbing up Mt. Everest over 3 times. While not impossible, it will be tough. But for some strange reason I’ve always enjoyed climbing on my bike. So this part is for me.
The second part of the challenge is for others. As you may know I enjoy painting, even creating my alter ego Ducksy to help me live out my artist dreams (see painting above). When I first heard of the work A Window Between Worlds was doing I was immediately drawn to them. I’ve been donating to their cause for a number of years now. They help survivors of trauma recover and use art as a powerful resource for replacing violence and shame with safety and hope.
Thank you so much for your help. I’ll be posting updates in the coming days.
Just $25 sponsors a survivor’s participation in one art workshop and $500 provides art supplies at a weekly program for an entire year.
Donations are tax deductible and 87% of all funds go directly to program services.
About A Window Between Worlds
A national 501(c)3 nonprofit, AWBW has been based in the artistic community of Venice, California for nearly 30 years. The organization's goal is to provide a resource — the opportunity to create art in a safe environment — that can empower individuals and communities impacted by trauma throughout the healing process. AWBW trains and supports established staff at partnering organizations to incorporate art-making into existing services in an accessible and meaningful way. Through this unique model, they are able to reach nearly 40,000 children and adult survivors through our healing arts program each year.
