Kay Hudnall has been a longtime advocate for AWBW’s mission and has supported in many different capacities during her involvement. We recently asked Kay to reflect on her history with AWBW and the ways she continues to make an impact today.

How did you first become involved in A Window Between Worlds?
One of those fateful situations that one looks back on as a good moment. Cathy contacted me about a painting I had, which was the work of a survivor and auctioned off at an event held at the House of Blues many years ago. AWBW was featuring a specific group at an upcoming exhibit. It was a very large painting that had proudly hung in my home for a number of years. As Cathy does so well, we struck up a nice conversation. When she discovered my background, she asked if I would consider serving on the AWBW Finance Committee and I accepted. Then came an invitation to serve on the board, and again I gladly said yes. Next was more involvement as part of the Executive Committee.

What inspires you most about the work of A Window Between Worlds?
Initially I was drawn to AWBW because of their success in helping victims of domestic violence. Before becoming aware of AWBW I had volunteered in a domestic violence shelter and served on their board. AWBW’s continued success and expansion of services to other areas of great need is a wonderful testimony to the leadership and staff. They have brought great awareness of the impact art as healing and recovery can have.

Can you share one particular highlight from your involvement with AWBW?
A feeling of thankfulness to have been so involved for years in the growth and development of such a wonderful organization.

What inspired you to begin giving monthly?
Knowing that while events are important to the fund-raising and friend-raising, funds are needed on a regular ongoing basis to support an organization.

 What would you say to others who might be considering making a monthly donation?
It is something I found easy to work into my monthly budget. Each month a “feel good” moment hits you when you get a notice your donation has been received. When one considers the money we spend each month on buying cups of coffee or going out to lunch or dinner, the decision to donate on a monthly basis just makes good sense.

Anything else you’d like to share?
When I found out AWBW was signed up as a charitable organization on Amazon Smile to receive a percentage of orders, I designated AWBW as my choice. Recently Amazon notified me of how much the donation in one year to AWBW had been. I was surprised as it was more than I would have expected. Because I made that simple choice, AWBW is benefiting from donations from Amazon’s pocket. I encourage everyone to take this simple step, so while you are buying things for yourself or gifts for others, AWBW is benefiting.
