First exhibition: AWBW’s Art Transforming Trauma Conference – June 30, 2016 at The California Endowment
A leader in creativity and mental wellness, AWBW supports hundreds of direct service organizations across the country to incorporate creative expression into their work with trauma survivors. AWBW’s training in facilitating art as a tool for transformation and healing, along with our library of curriculum and ongoing support, strengthens our program partners’ ability to better assist the individuals and communities they serve.
AWBW builds capacity at partnering organizations through training their staff to facilitate our trauma-informed art workshops, as well as continuing to support them as they implement the Windows Program with those who have experienced various forms of trauma. Through this unique model, we have developed a nationwide network of 1,200+ active Windows Facilitators, allowing us to reach tens of thousands of survivors each year.
From the beginning, a circle of connected innovation — comprised of each facilitator, supporter, staff, board member, and survivor — has created AWBW. As we celebrate 30 years of transforming trauma, we invite you to join us in both honoring the talents that have brought our work this far and carrying that work into a sustainable future.

To open a window connecting art, culture, recovery and healing within indigenous communities.
To let art break the chains of trauma that keep us silent, depressed, scared, alone, or walking in darkness.
I invite survivors to join me in using art as a path to move from victim to survivor to empowered.
To offer hope and courage to find change in the face of addiction and other traumas associated with addiction.
To show the impact that partnership can have in creating an affective community of support for veterans.
To share art as a touchstone of resilience-building in LAUSD.
To remember that healing begins with self acceptance including every beautiful imperfection we carry.
To pierce the darkness of trauma and give hope that light can shine again.
To help us feel connected, creating safety for young ones at an early age. Together we can break the cycle.
To encourage us all to be a loving presence for others. We make more difference than we’ll ever know.
“Begin humanizing… Before Demonizing.” Once we welcome our brokenness, then together we can move towards healing and change.
To be conscious of what we do with our eyes and our lips – to really see that words can hurt, and words can heal.
