Community Story Tree

About this Exhibition

Through images of roots, bark, branches, leaves, fruits, and sky 72 individuals from across the United States and beyond joined together to create this special tree embodying our community commitment against domestic violence. Survivors as well as allies, friends and family members, expressed their stories and shared their hopes and visions for a future free from domestic violence.

Each artist used this creative opportunity to explore the issue of domestic violence in any way that was most meaningful to him or her. Some participants delved into their past to share their personal stories of pain and triumph. Some reflected on the wishes, hopes and dreams they have for the future. Many family members of all ages were engaged, as each tile became a window to open dialog and communication.

As we unveil the Community Story Tree, A Window Between Worlds hopes to raise awareness about an issue that has a profound and painful impact on our community. We wish to provide a safe way for viewers to reflect on and share their own experiences with domestic violence while learning that they are not alone and that there is the possibility for a violence-free future. By welcoming allies, friends and family members, we hope to affirm and support the role that each person can play in ending violence.
