We are proud to collaborate with contemporary artists who uphold AWBW’s commitment to transformation through art. Mike Chearney’s artwork does exactly this — channeling healing energy through color, vibration and connection. His most recent multi-panel piece, A Window Between Worlds, was created to be auctioned in support of our transformative arts programs and will be available at our 2017 heART Awards. Each “window” is titled by AWBW Founder Cathy Salser, inspired by the spirit each piece carries.
Mike was introduced to AWBW in 2014 in the most unsuspecting of ways — in a high energy spin class, where he met Los Angeles artist Raymond Lee. Raymond insisted Mike meet his dear friend, the patron and arts advocate Joan Agajanian Quinn, and paint her portrait.
“Joan asked if I would support her daughter Amanda’s work with AWBW. In the process of painting a work for AWBW’s ArtWorks for Healing for which Amanda was Co-Chair, I did her portrait. Joan asked me to present that portrait to Amanda at the event. I never dreamt one day I would be so honored by AWBW. I guess life leads you to the place you belong. Isn’t that AWBW’s purpose? My gratitude to Raymond, Joan and Amanda for opening this window; and my spin instructor Andrew Schuth too!”
As he began working more closely with AWBW, attending community workshops, advocate huddles, and listening to the stories of survivors, Mike was able to better understand his own past. “I came to the understanding that my mother was most likely a victim of sexual abuse… and my father suffered as a PTSD victim of service in the Marines. I feel their spirits with and behind me now, in and out of the studio.”
“I am grateful. Honored to have the opportunity to make art; to help bring it to life. I passionately hope and work for a world where art and artists are celebrated and rewarded for their essential contributions to our quality of life.”
Mike’s artwork continues to gain energy, heralded by museums and global digital art platforms such as ArtSlant, which recently awarded “A Window of Breakthroughs” from A Window Between Worlds as a top 2017 Abstract artwork. Still, he remains humble and focused on his intention as an artist – to create paintings that emerge as positive energetic portraits of humanity, life experience, and interconnection that reach beyond what we see, to what we feel. “I am grateful. Honored to have the opportunity to make art; to help bring it to life. I passionately hope and work for a world where art and artists are celebrated and rewarded for their essential contributions to our quality of life.”
Mike says collaborating on the new energetic transmission piece A Window Between Worlds with Cathy Salser and the organization is one of the great highlights of his artistic life. “AWBW doesn’t just ask for support from artists, they give back. It’s family.”
This year, AWBW is proud to honor Mike Chearney as the recipient of our Creative Vision Award, to recognize the tremendous support he has lent to AWBW, with the humble intention of transmitting healing energy through art.
