On October 3, 2015 nearly 200 guests were greeted at Shutters on the Beach for Artworks for Healing, a heartfelt evening of wine and art to benefit our healing art programs. A huge THANK YOU to all who hosted, sponsored, attended and volunteered on this special evening! An extra special thank you to our Event Co-Chairs: Amanda Lin, Kristina Mitchell and Amanda Quinn Olivar; and our Honorary Co-Chairs Larry Layne & Sheelagh Boyd and Bobbie McMorrow.
Together we raised over $120,000 which will help launch AWBW into our 25th anniversary year as we continue to deepen our programs with domestic violence survivors and also expand to serve even more trauma survivors beyond the shelter setting. And thanks to a matching grant, all first-time and increased contributions from ArtWorks for Healing will be doubled!
In partnership with over 50 Los Angeles-based artists, the evening featured an exhibition of artwork in a wide range of medium available for purchase via silent auction – including works from Ed Ruscha, Patssi Valdez, Danielle Eubank and Sandeep Mukjerhee. We also unveiled the Touchstones project, as artists joined in solidarity with thousands of survivors, leaders, and advocates who have used art as a touchstone throughout AWBW’s history.
VIP ticket holders and sponsors had the honor of watching a dramatic performance as Celebrity Artist Chaz Guest painted a live portrait of our jazz quartet, The Westside Jazz Surgeons, during the cocktail reception. The crowd was amazed by his talent as they sipped on wine sponsored by Morandell Imports and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails by our hosts at Shutters on the Beach.
In case you missed the event, we created an online exhibition of the artwork – and several pieces are still on sale, including the one-of-a-kind painting by Chaz Guest. Please email us or call the office at (310) 396-0317 if you would like to make a purchase.
The silent & live auction at ArtWorks for Healing included amazing gifts and experiences such as an ElectroBike with a custom skin designed by The Art of Chase, a BCBG clutch, getaways to the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa and the The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as well as many beauty and wellness baskets!
Our Emcee and Auctioneer, Beth Littleford, filled the evening with laughter and excitement. She reminded guests of our reason for gathering – AWBW’s healing art programs. During our presentation, Beth introduced a powerful video of Founder and Executive Director, Cathy Salser, sharing the Touchstones project with our guests during this important moment of growth.
Cathy welcomed “25 Voices” to come to the stage and read Touchstones with words from the survivors who have benefited from our programs throughout the last 24 years. Many guests were moved to tears, but also were inspired to become Art Transforming Trauma Angels and make a contribution to support AWBW’s growth.
The evening concluded with delicious desserts and fantastic energy! We hope you will all stay connected during AWBW’s 25th Anniversary in 2016. Learn more about our 25 for 25 Campaign , and stay tuned for our celebratory event at Casa Del Mar next fall!
