"AWBW workshops are fun, healing and insightful. At our conference they not only gave us tools to share with survivors, but they provided us with a space to relax and inspire ourselves to continue the challenging, rewarding work that we do."
--Alaska Network On Domestic Violence And Sexual Assault Event Coordinator and Conference organizer

Sponsoring and Hosting Windows Leadership Training and Workshops
A Window Between Worlds welcomes the opportunity to bring Leadership Training and Windows Workshops to your location. AWBW has offered on-site trainings from Louisiana to Alaska, and even as far as Russia for domestic violence coalitions and service providers. Our staff will work closely with your organization in planning your training or workshop. Women’s Windows and Children’s Windows Leadership trainings vary in length from half day, one day, or two day, or may be combined for a three-day training. However, AWBW highly recommends the two-day format as the preferred length for either the Women's Windows or Children's Windows leadership training.

The total cost the training will vary by number of participants, number of trainers, and length of training. Materials normally cost $45 per person for programs longer than one-half day and $30 per person for up to one-half day. Administrative support, trainer(s) fees, deposit, travel, accommodations, and shipping are additional. See trainer’s fees & accompanying costs for more information.

All participants in our leadership training receive AWBW’s Program Manual, a start-up notebook of resources, program handouts, and hands-on workshop outlines. Windows Workshop participants will receive a sample workshop outline and essential program handouts.

Sponsoring
The sponsor is responsible for all costs of the training and provides facilities, audiovisual equipment, and refreshments. Sponsors are invoiced when services are scheduled. Fifty percent is due to secure reservation. The balance is due upon completion of the services. Half of the initial payment (25% of the fee) is non-refundable. The non-refundable amount may be applied to future trainings and workshops.

Co-sponsoring
One excellent way to reduce the cost is for the interested agency to identify a co-sponsor. The co-sponsor is responsible for their portion of expenses, sharing in the trainer’s fees and accompanying costs.

Hosting
Another way to lower the cost of training is to host rather than sponsor the entire event. To help offset expenses the host may charge each attendee a registration fee or acquire funding for full or partial training expenses. AWBW will be happy assist organizations that need additional literature or templates to publicize the training and/or request funding from other sources.
Note: Final payment of training costs is the ultimate responsibility of the hosting agency. Fifty percent is due to secure reservation. The balance is due upon completion of the services. Half of the initial payment (25% of the fee) is non-refundable. The non-refundable amount may be applied to future trainings and workshops.

Leadership Training Formats

Two-Day Windows Leadership Training:
(Women’s Windows OR Children’s Windows)
The two-day training prepares new leaders to implement the Windows art program at their agency. Participants experience six hands-on workshops, learn additional materials and techniques, and explore how to build safety and closure into their workshops. The two-day training also supports each new leader to envision how they will adapt the Windows process to their own style, situation, and client base, and allows ample time to explore challenges and brainstorm solutions. Participants have opportunities to explore and share their personal insights and discoveries. Our training is often a very moving and profound experience for new leaders and gives them an inside understanding of what the Windows art process will be like for the participants in their groups.
Includes: 6 hands-on workshops / Training Manuals / Leader’s Packets / Access to over 100 workshops developed to date. back to top

One-Day Windows Leadership Training:
(Women’s Windows OR Children’s Windows)
Due to time constraints, it is sometimes impossible to gather people for a full two-day training (for example, if the training is part of a larger conference). AWBW has developed a condensed one-day training that enables participants to experience three hands-on workshops and a brief introduction to additional materials and techniques. The training also explores basic ways to build safety and closure into the art workshops. Because there is less time (than in the two-day training) to support each new leader with their individual visions of how they will adapt the Windows process to their own style, situation, and client base, these issues will be explored in paired sharing. Paired sharing and group discussion will also be used to explore the challenges each leader anticipates and brainstorming solutions. The personal insights and discoveries each participant has during the hands-on workshops will also be shared primarily in pairs rather than with the entire group. Although it cannot provide as much depth as a full two-day training, much can be accomplished in a single day, and participants leave with enough information and experience to start their own Windows Program.
Includes: 3 hands-on workshops / Training Manuals / Leader’s Packets / Access to over 100 workshops developed to date.

Half-Day Windows Leadership Training:
(Women’s Windows OR Children’s Windows)
The half-day (four hour) time frame provides a minimal introduction to AWBW’s philosophy, materials, and techniques and includes two abbreviated workshops, so that participants can get a hands-on sense of the art process. Again, due to time constraints most of the following occurs in paired sharing: supporting each new leader’s individual visions of how they will adapt the Windows process to their own style, situation, and client base; discussing challenges each leader anticipates facing and brainstorming solutions; sharing personal insights and discoveries each participant has during the hands-on workshops. Although it cannot provide as much depth as a full one- or two-day training, half-day workshops can prepare attentive participants with enough information and experience to start their Windows Program.
Includes: 2 abbreviated hands-on workshops / Training Manuals / Leader’s Packets / Access to over 100 workshops developed to date.

Three-Day Combined Women’s Windows AND Children’s Windows Training:
If you are planning to bring both the Women’s and Children’s Windows Two-Day Trainings, consider what overlap of participants will there be between the two trainings. If the overlap will be close to 100%, we recommend hosting a 3-day combined training. This is because some aspects of each training can be combined (introductions, several workshops that are good for both programs, and closing activities). As a result, participants cover both of the full trainings in 3 days instead of 4. If the overlap will NOT be close to 100%, you can plan them as two separate trainings and it is up to you to decide what length trainings you’d like (based on the above descriptions.) Even if they are two separate trainings, you can save airfare and travel days by hosting the trainings back-to-back.
Includes: 9 hands-on workshops / Training Manuals / Leader’s Packets / Access to over 100 workshops developed to date

Windows Workshop

Two-Hour Windows Workshop:
(Women’s Windows OR Children’s Windows)
With a two-hour time frame, AWBW is able to provide an interactive program introduction rather than a training. Again, due to schedules at conferences, this is sometimes the only timeframe available, and can be quite valuable to participants. It includes one hands-on art workshop experience along with a written workshop outline, so that participants can take it back to use with their clients. In lieu of the training manual and leader’s packets, a conference packet is distributed and provides a summarized introduction to AWBW’s philosophy, program results, and resources available.
Includes: 1 sample hands-on workshop / Conference packet with workshop outline, program introduction, and summary of resources and support available from AWBW.

Number of Trainers and Volunteers: The number of participants determines the recommended number of trainers. Depending on training size, volunteers from the hosting agency are needed to help with art set up and clean up throughout the training.

1-18 Participants: One trainer is sufficient for up to 12 participants and trainings of 13-18 participants require one trainer and a volunteer assistant.

19-30 Participants: Two trainers are recommended along with 2-4 volunteers. This enables the training to include several breakout sessions where participants explore the creative processes in an intimate group setting similar to the workshops they will be leading.

31-50 Participants: Three trainers and 5-6 volunteers are recommended to make possible three simultaneous breakout sessions.
*However, if you cannot afford more than one trainer, please call to discuss alternative options. With adequate volunteer assistance, we have had one trainer work successfully with up to 50 participants.

Alternatives to hosting/sponsoring include attending a training in the Los Angeles area or participating in one-on-one Distance Training. Los Angeles area trainings are held twice per year per program. The training fee is $500 per person (scholarships available).
