AWBW’s Windows Leadership Training, facilitated by professional artists and experienced leaders, is designed to support new leaders in three specific ways:

  1. Providing hands-on experience:
    • Participants experience six hands-on art workshops, with opportunities to explore a variety of materials and techniques.
    • Experienced leaders demonstrate relaxation techniques as well as other ways to create safety within the group setting.
    • Participants gain insight into the art process that they will be
sharing in their own groups, and have opportunities to explore and
share their personal insights and discoveries.

  2. Introducing leaders to a wealth of accumulated knowledge:
    • AWBW provides written materials detailing program structure and philosophy, as well as comprehensive art workshop outlines.
    • Participants learn of hundreds of available workshops and how to access them for use with their own programs.
    • Trainers discuss how particular workshops have been adapted for various settings including crisis, transitional, and outreach.
    • Participants learn how art programs can be particularly useful for
women and children who have experienced domestic violence, including
how to adapt the program for survivors in various stages of the healing
      process.
    • Participants gain an understanding of the differences between the Windows art process and art therapy.

  3. Encouraging individual leadership styles and innovation:
    • Participants are encouraged to envision how they will adapt the Windows process to their own style, situation, and client base.
    • Participants explore potential challenges and brainstorm solutions
within the group setting, thus building the foundation for the network
of leaders to work together collaboratively to solve problems and
      develop new ideas.
    • Participants are invited to develop and submit new workshop ideas to
AWBW to share with the group, so that each leader benefits from the
insights and experiences of every other leader.
