BREAKING FREE: Art as a Healing Tool
October 30, 2009

Thanks to the support of the dA Center for the Arts in Pomona’s lively downtown art district, AWBW presented its "BREAKING FREE" exhibit throughout October in commemoration of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The retrospective exhibit showcased 18 years of artwork created by survivors of domestic violence.

On behalf of AWBW's staff and board we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the exhibit, reception, and candlelight vigil. While the entire month at the dA Gallery was full of special moments, our favorite "BREAKING FREE" highlight had to be the candelight vigil. "It was such a powerful evening where the voices of survivors were not only heard, but celebrated." Patrons enjoyed creating DV Awareness shrinky dinks, viewing the amazing survivor art, memorable speakers, and the solidarity of being part of this special community. The candlelight walk was particularly poignant.  Thanks to your participation we had seventy people proudly walking to honor and empower survivors of domestic violence. Again, thank you for being a part of such a wonderful evening and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
