Just when we thought our Advocate Huddles couldn't possibly get any better, last week's meeting topped all our expectations! It was wonderful to witness how every advocate nurtures the seeds of AWBW's future in their own way; several even talked about AWBW going global!
For those of you who couldn't be with us, our guest speaker and Women's Windows Participant, Cynthia, really brought home just how much AWBW's art program has changed the course of her life. In her speech she shared, "I have waited since 2003 to see an individual counselor. I have yet to see one. All of my healing has come from Windows." Everyone was deeply moved by Cynthia's story, and the pain and triumph of a family moving forward together was evident on the faces of her young children.
We also had a group of teen supporters with us, led by Kaitlyn, Student Body President of her High School. Kaitlyn has chosen AWBW for her Senior Leadership Project, and her friends McKenna and Paige expressed their desire to coordinate a national art supply drive for Windows!
The evening was capped off by Jon Biel, Co-Founder of Make the Difference Network (www.mtdn.com). Jon got us all excited about how we can get AWBW's work and message out into the community using the technology at hand, and just how powerful the messages can be. Jon had so much inspiring information to share we could have listened to him all night!
A big thank you to all those who attended — you helped make this a very exciting and stimulating evening! We are so grateful for all you are doing to create a window of healing for survivors of domestic violence. To those who couldn't make it, we look forward to welcoming you to our Venice Studio on October 20th for our third Advocate Huddle!
