Heart Stories

AWBW Workshops are a safe space for children and teens surviving domestic violence to listen to their hearts, value the stories within them and discover that others want to hear their stories, too.

The Heart Story artworks and poignant captions offer a glimpse into the mixed emotions, tensions, hopes and wisdom of these young survivors.

"Half of my heart is sad because my dad hurt my mom a lot, the other half is happy because he is getting help."

"It (my heart) is lonely even though it has a family. It just got lost."

"You can get into the same fights over and over again. It keeps going in circles until you stop it."

"Smiles make my heart happy."

Thank you for witnessing these Heart Stories and thank you to the 30 young artists selected for this exhibition.
