I Can: Requiem for I Can't Exhibit and Events

Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC)




Lead artists Barbara T. Smith and Nina Jun, in collaboration with A Window Between Worlds (AWBW), have designed a participatory project and installation that creates transformation from domestic violence and sexual assault.  Designed to mobilize survivors statewide, the public component of this art work will launch with an installation and performance building upon AWBW's 20 years of pioneering experience using art against abuse.

OPENING CEREMONY
Saturday March 31st, 2-4PM
Barbara T. Smith Performance
Nina Jun Installation
This event will include a one time only performance art piece by Barbara T. Smith.  This performance will be filmed and incorporated into the exhibit.  The performance will include a participatory element for all attendees. 

EVENING RECEPTION

Thursday April 19th, 6-9PM
Coinciding with the Venice Art Crawl
This evening reception will feature a video projection of Barbara T. Smith's Opening Ceremony Performance from March 31st.  If you're interested in connecting with the art community in Venice, this event will allow you to experience the I Can: Requiem for I Can't exhibit as well as other stops along the Venice Art Crawl.

CONVERSATION WITH THE ARTISTS
Sunday April 22nd, 2-4PM

Moderated by Suvan Geer
This afternoon event will mark the close of the exhibit and will feature a conversation with Barbara T. Smith, Nina Jun, Cathy Salser and SPARC Founder Judy Baca.  Moderated by Suvan Geer, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in a conversation with these world renown artists about the I Can: Requiem for I Can't exhibit and the power of art to effect social change.
